Microsoft and Standards

". . . As I tested our interop against the Microsoft dialup PPP support in Chicago -- which became Windows 95 -- I remember a conversation with their lead engineer (I seem to recall his name was Andy, and he wore cowboy boots; strange the things you remember). He told me that the interop was very important for the community, because Microsoft, even in 1994, was quite the software juggernaut. Any flaws in their PPP software would become the new de-facto standards." Read More . . .

Inside Microsoft's New F# Language

". . . Java and C# are inherently complex. Each contains a pantheon of objects and libraries that can be used by the developer to accomplish many tasks. Anyone who has programmed in Java or C# knows that the same goal can usually be accomplished many different ways, depending on the developer. Often a complex language spawns complex solutions --and complex code can be difficult to debug, update, and pass on to new developers. Here's where F# comes to the rescue: a simple subtle language designed to solve simple, subtle problems." Read More . . .

How a Google Search Result is Served

Great article by microdoc-news.

"The Google Search Engine operates on clusters of inexpensive, low quality unreliable computer processors. What builds reliability into the system is the hard working and impeccable software using multiple copies of the same indexes so that if the commodity-class hardware fails, the software can redistribute the job to other replications of the same data. Microdoc News provides excerpts from a recently released article published by the IEEE Computer Society titled "Web Search for a Planet: The Google Cluster Architecture"." Read More . . .

My field of study !?

Actually my field of study is mathematics and I really like it.I do iT jobs near my study.I have faced a hard question in statistics which you may be able to solve it ! Leave comments if you got an idea.

Consider a reliability inspection policy where n items are put "on test" and the first r failure times, T1,T2,. . .,Tr are recorded. Assume the pdf ( probability density function ) describing the response variable is exponential with parameter Lamda.Write down the appropriate joint pdf, differentiate it and show that MLE ( Maximum Likelihood Estimation ) for Lamda is given by : (1/r)*(T1+T2+. . .+Tr)+(n-r)*Tr.

Sure, you can run down to the local retailer and drop $29.95 on a retail SKU, or even order a cheap CD from the Web, but that's not free. A better option for getting one's feet wet with Linux is to download a distro, burn it to a CD, and install it from there." Read More . . .
